This camp is designed for players in Years 5, 6 & 7 who want to play more hockey, improve their skills, and build confidence in a positive environment. It is suitable for players who play regularly for school or club, as well as those who are still developing their experience and confidence in matches.
Year 7 players preparing for sports scholarship assessments are especially welcome, see below.
Across the two days, players will work on core hockey skills including passing and receiving, ball control, attacking skills, defending, movement off the ball, and shooting. Sessions will be delivered through a mixture of drills, small-sided games, and match play.
For players in Year 7 who are considering applying for sports scholarships at senior independent schools, Year 7 is the ideal time to begin building the foundations that assessors look for. Most 13+ scholarship assessments take place in January or February of Year 8.
For players beginning to think about senior school sport scholarships or higher-level hockey opportunities, coaches can provide additional guidance around:
This isn't a separate group, Year 7 players are part of the main camp environment, with coaching designed to develop everyone while giving those with scholarships in mind the depth of detail that makes the difference.
Goalkeepers are very welcome at the camp. Goalkeepers will take part in specialist goalkeeper practice sessions as well as joining in with match play and game situations throughout the camp.
Throughout the camp, players will take part in individual and team challenges, with points earned across the two days. The camp competition usually includes skills challenges, small games, and match play, finishing with an overall winner at the end of the camp receiving a brand new Grays MB6 Hockey Stick.
The coaching environment is positive, encouraging, and focused on helping players improve and enjoy their hockey. Players are encouraged to try new skills, make decisions, and play with confidence.
We aim to create an environment where all players feel comfortable, included, and supported. Players are encouraged to work hard, be respectful, and enjoy playing hockey.
The May Half-Term Camp is a great opportunity for players to play more hockey during the school holidays, improve their skills, and gain more match experience before the summer term.
