For Year 8 players considering sports scholarships, the October camp falls at an important point in the year, scholarship assessments typically take place a few months later in January or February.
The camp will include skill development, small-sided games, shooting practice, defending, attacking play, and match play, with a focus on improving game understanding and confidence.
The October camp marks a change in our age group structure. Players who attended our earlier 2026 camps as Year 7 have now started Year 8, with scholarship assessments at senior independent schools typically just a term away in January or February.
This camp is specifically designed to support that cohort through the final stages of preparation. Coaching will incorporate the key areas that scholarship assessors look for:
For players in Years 6 and 7, the camp provides the same high quality development environment — and for those beginning to think about scholarships further down the line, early exposure to this level of coaching is invaluable.
Goalkeepers will receive specialist coaching during the camp and will also play in matches and game-based practices across the two days.
Players will take part in a camp competition across the two days, including skills challenges, team games, and matches, finishing with an overall winner receiving a brand new Grays Hockey Stick.
Coaching is focused on helping players improve while enjoying their hockey. We encourage effort, teamwork, and positive attitudes throughout the camp.
We aim to provide a positive and welcoming environment where all players feel included, supported, and able to enjoy hockey.
The October Camp is a great opportunity for players to play more hockey during half term and continue developing their skills during the hockey season.
October camp is only open to Years 6, 7 & 8.
Year 5 will return in the New Year, as will Year 4 advanced player exceptions.
